The Storage System
MWNote uses a three-stage storage system to keep your workspace clean and focused while still letting you preserve important notes. It organizes notes based on when they were last modified, keeping current work visible and moving older work out of your way.
Understanding this system will help you work more effectively with MWNote.
The Three Stages
Active → Inactive → (Deleted)
↘ ↙
Archive
Active
- Your main workspace for all new and recently updated notes.
- After the configured Move period in Cleaner settings, notes move automatically to Inactive.
- Notes remain here as long as they’re saved/modified within the configured Move period.
Inactive
- A temporary holding area for notes you haven’t saved/edited recently.
- Hidden from day-to-day navigation so current work stays uncluttered.
- After the configured Delete period, notes here are deleted automatically by Cleaner.
- To bring a note back to Active, move it with Organizer.
Archive
- Permanent storage for notes you choose to keep.
- Move notes here manually from Active or Inactive via Organizer.
- Notes in Archive are never deleted by Cleaner.
How Automatic Organization Works
The automatic note organization managed by Cleaner uses note modification date to determine relevance:
- When you edit a note: Last modified updates, note stays in Active.
- When you don't touch a note: After configured timeframe, moves note from Active to Inactive.
- Extended inactivity: After longer timeframe, deletes note from Inactive.
Manual Control (Organizer)
- Move to Archive to protect a note from automatic deletion.
- Move from Inactive to Active if you want it back in your daily flow.
- Delete immediately from any stage when you’re sure you don’t need a note.
Use the Organizer to perform these actions at any time.
